How meditation can help you develop your intuition

There are many benefits of meditation. It slows your heart rate, lowers your blood pressure, increases your oxygen intake, and lowers cortisol production. Cortisol is the stress hormone and meditation is a great stress reliever. Additionally, meditation is a great tool to help you develop your intuition.

Intuition is your inner voice that knows when something is a good idea or if it is something to avoid. It’s your own built-in navigation system to help you make good choices and avoid mistakes. Some people are able to follow their intuition almost instinctively. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of how important it is to pay attention to their intuition. Sometimes it is impossible to receive messages because of the constant inner chatter and distractions.

Why is it important to develop your intuition through practices such as meditation?

First, your intuition helps you to make decisions that will ultimately impact your life’s journey. Who doesn’t want a clue to whether they are moving in the right direction? Secondly, intuition can be used as a business tool. Knowing when to make a business move can be very useful. And lastly, intuition can help you strengthen your personal relationships and avoid wasting time on negative situations.

Once you are able to recognize the subtle cues from your intuition, there are no limits. Everyone should work on identifying their inner voice, whether it speaks through images, feelings, or just ‘knowing.’

Why is meditation such a terrific way to become more intuitive?

  • Your need quiet in order to hear your inner voice and meditation is the practice of silencing the mind.  Some people like using meditation audio such as Omharmonics to improve concentration and to reach that state of tranquility much quicker.
  • It’s necessary to remain in the present when meditating and that’s where your intuition is at all times.
  • The calm feeling of peace that you get from meditating is conducive to hearing your intuition.

Meditation has become much more main-stream in the past 20 years. There is so much information about meditation online and in bookstores. There are even classes about meditation in healing centers, hospitals, and exercise facilities for all levels of practice.

Most meditations begin the same way- by finding a quiet place with no distractions. If you are meditating at home, you can set an environment with candles, incense, or anything else that helps you to get in touch with your inner self. From there, a simple meditation is to:

1. Sit with your legs crossed and palms facing upward.

2. Take in deep breaths:  in for a count of six, hold for a count of three, and release for a count of six.

3. Quiet your mind and listen to any messages that you receive.

4. Continue for 15-20 minutes

5. Return to the present moment slowly.

By practicing these basic steps each day you will begin better connect to your intuition and recognize when it has a message for you.

Because I practice meditation I can vouch for its benefits. When I take the time to get quiet and center myself my world changes. I am calmer, more focused, and have an easier time going through my day. Meditation times can vary: sometimes I sit for 5 minutes and sometimes 30. What matters more than the quanitity of time spent is the quality of the experience.

Do you give yourself the gift of time and silence? I’d like to hear your experiences.

The universe would not be complete without you.
You are important.
Peace and Love,  ∞ Brenda

Sounds like a wonderful meditation, Michele. I believe meditation is setting ourselves apart from the noise of the world and bringing in the silence. Whichever way others choose to do that is okay with me.
I also love standing outside barefoot and feeling the earth beneath my feet. Warm hugs to you. Brenda

  4. I’m pretty crap at meditating – I mean I never give myself the time for myself. But I’m changing that and last night I went outside under the full moon, lit a candle, incense and held a piece of rose quartz in one hand and smokey quartz in the other and I MEDITATED. I was outside, barefoot on the earth when I wasn’t sitting and gazed at the moon and asked questions, and focused on nothing, and then focussed on some things. I did a variety of weird and wonderful stuff – probably not your traditional sense of meditation but I made a couple of decisions once I found clarity and I felt more grounded and happier, so I figured something worked. I will be meditating outside more often and I really liked the stillness of the night, the full moon and the odd bat flying by ♥
