Staying Grounded in the Whirlwind of Technology: 3 Tips for Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle in a Fast Paced World

We live in a fast paced world. The advancement of technology has provided an unbelievable amount of new conveniences and has allowed for some truly miraculous discoveries and inventions. All of this advancement can serve to enrich and simplify our lives but at times it can also overwhelm us and have the opposite effect—overcomplicating things unnecessarily and causing more harm than good. If you’ve ever experienced this, or are currently feeling especially weighed down by the demands of your modern lifestyle, here are a few simple tips to help you relax, keep your perspective clear, and allow you to carry out your routine with purpose and clarity.

Unplug Regularly

The current trend seems to be pushing everything toward “going wireless” so although the term (unplug) might be outdated, the practice itself has never been more relevant. Set aside time each day for some good old-fashioned peace and quiet. Turn off your cell phone, get off your computer, tablet or gaming system, shut off the music and spend a little time thinking. Seriously. Just thinking. You will be amazed at how much perspective can be gained by setting side even 10-15 minutes per day to ponder. And you might be surprised at how difficult it can be to find this quiet time each day, which is probably evidence of how badly you need it.

Essential Oils

“Essential oils” refers to a large number of products that offer a wide variety of restorative, healing and preventative benefits. Lavender essential oil, for example, helps the body make adjustments to account for stress or imbalances so it functions well for relaxation or to boost stamina and increase energy. It is one of the most versatile essential oils and is a great way to achieve and maintain balance in your hectic life. Other oils can improve digestive problems (peppermint), soothe muscles after exercise (eucalyptus), or provide support to the liver and nervous system (helichrysum). These are just a few examples from the dozens of great essential oils from www.livetru.com that can help provide an extra push in the healthy direction you seek.

Count Your Blessings

While this might seem like overly simplistic, grandmotherly advice, gratitude is actually one of the most scientifically validated ways to improve happiness. A number of studies have been done to confirm that taking time each day to identify the good things in your life can lead to better moods, improve the ability to cope with challenges, and can even have positive physical effects. Just like most everything else, making a habit of counting your blessings is easier in theory than it is in practice. You may want to start by actually writing down a small list each morning and each night. Beginning and ending your day with this practice will help you develop it into a habit that can eventually come naturally as it works its way into your personality. It seems simple but you’ll see the benefits and maybe more quickly than you expect.

The guest bloggers you choose are always a good read, and of course, I always enjoy reading your posts as well. I don’t know what happened because I know I was subscribed to your blog, and then I noticed I wasn’t! I am again! :-)

Thanks, Jerri. That has happened to me. All of a sudden I realize I’m missing someone’s blog and for some reason I’m no longer subscribed. Go figure.
